BE YOU TIFUL ACTIVTY

BEAUTIFUL YOU ACTIVITY DAYS LESSON

A few years ago I had planned out a full year of Activities for my Activity Days group.
I had one in mind that was simple and talked about how to love yourself and be thankful for who you are.

I have these darling printables below to go along with this activity.  I created 3 different styles of this saying so that the girls could choose what they like the best.  I would have a few copies of each on hand.  You can purchase the 3 different styles for only 99 cents a piece, then format them on your computer to copy as many of each of them as you would like.  This would actually be a darling printout to frame for a girls bedroom or even put a magnet on the backside for older girls in Young Women's to hang in their lockers at school!

Anyways, back to the activity.

It happened that a few weeks before I had this Activity, my Mother came to stay with me for a while.  She was getting sick and our family wasn't sure what was going on.
Long story short, she was there for the activity.
She unfortunately died just 2 months later from a very aggressive form of Brain Cancer.

Looking back, I was so glad I took a few pictures and had her join us for this simple activity.
When I think back at what she was able to say to the girls in a few fun and upbeat words, reminds me so much of how she felt about life and loving ourselves.

She taught me how to have self esteem and more importantly, she taught me that my self worth comes only from knowing that my Heavenly Father and Mother love me.  This drawing below is so silly.  We didn't know it at the time, but she had very limited brain function on her frontal lobe, so this quite drawing and few sentences is one of the last things she wrote down before going downhill very quickly.

Here is what we did for this activity.

The girls arrived and came in to sit at the table.  We said a prayer and I handed a blank piece of paper to each of them.  I had dollar store water color pallets and brushes set out for them.  I also had cups with water and paper towels near by.

I told them to paint a self portrait.  A simple self portrait.  They had a fun time doing them.
As they painted, we talked about the importance of knowing how Lucky we are to have been born on this earth and to know the plan of salvation and that we were created to become goddesses in the hereafter.  We talked about how important it is for each of us to celebrate who we are and the unique characteristics we have.
I had them write a few things they liked about themselves on another piece of paper.  I was lucky to have my daughter in my Activity Days group for a few months.  This is her cute portrait below with what she said about herself.

There is a great General Conference talk by Elder Uchtdorf that goes well with this lesson of the worth of souls.  If you click on the link below it will take you to LDS.ORG where you can even have the girls watch part or all of the talk, or print a copy of the talk to read excerpts of it to the girls during your activity.

To read/print/watch the talk:

I also found this image online on google somewhere.  I thought it was beautiful.
I love these words from Elder Uchtdorf!

Here are some of the other girls below.
I took a photo of each of them with their portrait, so they could remember this day.  Look at the sparkle in their eyes.
They left this activity full of self worth and knowing they are loved by one another and by me.

 Thanks for stopping by!

Love,
Candy

BE A SMOOTHIE & SHAKE IT UP

WORD OF WISDOM LESSON

WORD OF WISDOM HANDOUT

CHOICES PRINTABLE

Hey guys!  Isn't that printable so cute? I'll start by saying this lesson was one of my favorites!  The girls had a ball!  Can I add another sentence with an exclamation at the end?  Let me answer that...Of course I can!

Alrighty now- moving on, here's what I came up with:

As I thought about what it means to obey the Word of Wisdom in different ways, I thought it would be fun to focus on things the girls can be proactive with now and learn to incorporate as beneficial habits in their lives.  Two of those things were:

A. Choosing Healthy Foods
B. Staying Physically Active

When the girls arrived, I had them sit down with a paper and markers.  I asked them to:

A. Draw some of their favorite healthy foods.
B.  Write what they know about the Word of Wisdom.

After all the girls arrived, we sat down at the table and went over the foods they had drawn and why they were healthy choices.  Then we had a few girls share the words they had written about the Word of Wisdom.  They really did a great job writing things down and taking it to heart.

* I have since added the link below for a great article from the LDS Magazine the Liahona, which would be a good thing to to read with the girls if you would like.

The Lord has given us a law of heath

After we talked for a few minutes, I told them about the two fun things we were going to do during the activity that relates to the Word of Wisdom and staying healthy.
First up was:

BE A SMOOTHIE.

be a smoothie and shake it up

This is where we gathered around the kitchen island and made a delicious healthy smoothie together.  We discussed why the ingredients were healthy and that eating is a necessity to keep our bodies alive, but that we can also enjoy great tasting food as well.  We talked about portion sizes and other stuff relating to healthy eating habits.  The girls helped to measure and pour the ingredients for the smoothie.  We made a Strawberry Banana Smoothie with milk, strawberry yogurt, strawberries, bananas, honey and apple juice.  Boy was it was YUMMY!

I had cheap dollar store plastic straws on hand and found a stash of fun napkins to go along with them.  I am a huge believer in having something simple set up.  Something as simple as having the cups and the ingredients being displayed on the island rather than in a clump makes the girls more excited and brings an extra measure of joy!

While we were enjoying our tasty treat, we talked about the next part of our activity which was:

SHAKE IT UP!

This is the part where we talked about keeping our bodies physically fit and staying active.  We went into my family room and I turned on some music.  The girls split in to groups of 3 and I told them to each make up a small dance with a few fun moves.  The girls were all over it.  They took about 5 minutes making up and practicing a very simple 15 to 20 second dance.  Then we had each group show us what they made up.  I had some fun up beat music with good lyrics to play.
After we did that.  We had a few minutes to jam out all together with our own moves in wild 9 year old Mormon fashion!

So needless to say... try this activity out.
I'm sure it will be a hit with your group too!

ENJOY!

PRETZELS AND PRAYER ACTIVITY

PRETZELS AND PRAYER ACTIVITY
THE LEGEND OF THE PRETZEL

I had such a fun time with the girls during this activity.  They LOVED it!  The best part about this activity is it is simple with a darling message about one of the most basic principles of the gospel.

sunshineandmelody.blogspot.com

I started the activity when the girls arrived by having a darling little pretzel maze for them to do.

Which you can download HERE.  Or there is another pretzel maze version  HERE.  Then I had them take a piece of paper and write what prayer means to them, or what attributes a prayer is made of.

We then talked about what they had written.  When we were finished with our discussion, I read them the legend of the pretzel and told them we were going to dip pretzels in chocolate with sprinkles on top.  They were thrilled!  They loved it.  Each of them were able to dip about 15 pretzels in a good amount of time.  I had white and milk chocolate melted in pots.  I made sure to spray the plates with non stick cooking spray so the pretzels wouldn't stick.  They cooed very quickly too.  I had clear plastic cups for the girls to take their pretzels home in.

One of the things we did was fill a few extra cups full of pretzels to take to some people in the ward.  I always like to show an opportunity for service whenever possible.  No matter how small it may seem.  Thinking of others is never a wasted trait to teach.
We put a little baggie over the cups and tied them with some bakers twine.  We attached a copy.of the legend of the prayer and the girls signed the back of it for the person receiving it.

Another option if you have some older girls or want to do this lesson for Family Night or are a good baker is to make your own soft dough pretzels!  The soft pretzels can be sprinkled with butter and salt, cinnamon sugar or Parmesan cheese.  You can even go as far as to make a sweet powered sugar glaze to dip them in, or cheese sauce.  Soo yummy, right?!
Below is a darling printable tag which you can have the girls write a message on the back with their names to send to someone!

Note:  I adapted this lesson idea from dawnsactivitydays.blogspot.com.

MOTHERHOOD

Yes, I have Mother's Day already on my mind.
What a wonderful time of year to celebrate Motherhood!
Mother's make the world go 'round.  It's just the simple truth!

I think this is a perfect little printable for any beautiful woman.
It can be printed and made into a card, or framed.
How about made into a tag to hang from a lovely floral basket or treat bag
full of goodies for your friends, visiting teachers or sisters

As for a great primary, activity days craft or even young women-  this would be so cute
mod podged onto a little wooden block
for the kids to give to their mom!
